How To Clean And Maintain A Dishwasher ?

Dishwasher has made our life very easy by automatically cleaning our dishes. Due to frequent use, its efficiency could decrease. Therefore, it is required that you take some precautions while using it. If you will follow these instructions, you can add years to your dishwasher.

While starting a cycle of a dishwasher, load it properly so that no electricity is wasted in it. While putting detergent in the dishwasher, check out the manual first to have a better estimate of the amount. Don’t ever use any other cleaning agent in the dishwasher that is not mentioned in the manual.

The detergent should be stored in a dry and cool place. Do not keep extra or open packets in hands for a long time as it absorbs moisture from the air and then loses its cleaning ability. A dishwasher should always be plugged into a grounded outlet and an extension cord should not be used for it.

If hot water is not being used in your house for 2 weeks or longer then open all the hot water faucets and let them run for several minutes before using the dishwasher or any other appliance using hot water. When the water is running through the faucet then do not smoke or light any flame as hydrogen gas which is flammable and explosive may build up in water heater and hot water pipes if hot water is not used for a long time.

The interior of a dishwasher is self-cleaning. If you want to remove any stain on it then you can clean it with dishwasher detergent and water. Don’t forget to wear rubber gloves during this to protect your hands from the alkaline detergent.

For removing the heavy film of hard water minerals accumulated on a dishwasher, you may add vinegar or citric acid crystals when all the dishes are removed from it. It should only be done if it will cause no problem to your dishwasher. For confirming you may see the user’s manual.

However, if very hard water is being used in your dishwasher then it can deposit mineral film on dishes, glasses, flatware, dishwasher pump and all the moving part. Therefore, in this case it’s better to install a water softener before installing a dishwasher.

Dishwasher could also start rusting due to iron content of water. And to stop your dishwasher from rusting, use a soluble rust remover after checking the manual as some of the rust remover may not suit your dishwasher. If the problem still persists, use a iron filtering layer in your water filter.
