Building links is still one of the best ways to get traffic to your site. However, the ways to effectively build links has changed over the years. Some techniques, such as reciprocal link building, are no longer as effective as they used to be. * Seek out one-way links when possible. Reciprocal links do not help much anymore, and while you might get some benefit from them, it is generally a better idea to spend time building one-way links instead. * Get listed in the Yahoo Directory if you can afford the $299/year. Although the cost is rather high, being listed on the Yahoo Directory can give you site ranking a serious boost. No other site provides the link juice as being listed on the Yahoo Directory.
* Submit your site to the Open Directory (aka Dmoz). After Yahoo, this directory is the best place to be listed. The good thing is that it is free, unlike Yahoo. However, getting listed can take a lot of time, so you should resubmit every few months if you don’t get listed.
* Do online article marketing. It is easy to burn out with this method, so the best path is to use automated software that will make the task easier for you. Magic Article Rewriter/Submitter is the article tool with the best reputation. You can also do article marketing with SeNuke.
* Put your articles on Web 2.0 sites. Doing this manually will take a lot of time, so I recommend an automated tool like SeNuke for this. Focus on popular Web 2.0 properties like Hubpages, Squidoo, and WordPress. Make sure the pages you create contain backlinks to your site.
* Bookmark your site at top social bookmarking sites. This is another task that is repetitive and easy to burn out on, so once again, make sure you either outsource this or use an automates social bookmarker. Some popular tools for this are SeNuke and Bookmarking Demon, among others.
* Make some videos and put them up on Youtube as well as other video sites. Youtube allows you to post a link in your video description, providing you with a great opportunity to link back to your site from a high-profile site like Youtube. If you are not sure how to create videos, try recording yourself doing a powerpoint presentation. Screen capture programs like CamStudio make this relatively easy to do.
While you don’t have to employ all of these link building tips, using a few of them for each new page on your site should improve your site ranking by quite a bit.
